hey guys, I have been reading up and found that putting an EA head on the ebII will raise the compression a little and I got to thinking...what a bout the xr6 head?
currently slowly getting part together for BBM conversion btw
I did some searching and found this...

EB-EL XR6 - 161 to 164kw
Same as the standard, but received larger exhaust valves (41mm vs 39mm for stock), upgraded fuel pressure regulator (300kpa vs 250/275 for stock depending on model), different cam shafts, mild performance head and retuned ECU.

what would be the way to go? just the EA head or go for the xr6 head, i read some where that using the xr6 head also needs the xr6 cam and some other bits, is this true?
how hard would it be to do a head swap for the EA and XR (done in a day or two?) and what would be a rough cost to do it/bang for buck?

cheers

i would not use the 3.9 head to raise the compression, they have heaps smaller ports and although it might raise sompression it will restrict the flow. it would be better to do what else you suggested, get a complete xr6 head, 300kpa fuel pressure regulator, and xr6 ecu.

not to sure about the price for the xr6 head, but you could also get an EL motor as i rekon that they rev alot smoother as they are better balanced. a el motor from the wreckers would probably be around $300 and it would take not even a day to change, even if you work slow.

300 el or xr6 el? I presume that i would need a fair few other bits and pieces to do that thou, would it be a drop in job or is there bracket modding involved?

not el xr6 motor, just standard el. it will have different pulley's on the front so you could either change them back to the old belt set-up or you could have just one belt which is what ef onwards have. would be better with one belt and not to sure about how to change power steering pulley or if you have to change the whole pump.

If your going to do a EL motor go for a AU motor instead only $200 here at Wacol wreckers and a much better motor

if your gonna use the au motor run it on coil packs or change the aux shaft because wheen you put a dizzy into ef or au motors the aux shaft will most likely break
