Hey guys

Ive only had my 92' EB Series II Fairmont Ghia For Around 6 months and ive noticed everytime i give it a good hit and get up it the belt comes off the pulleys which leaves me with no powersteering, and also happens when i go to do a burnout it comes off i cant seem to find anything about it..

any advice would be appreciated :)

is your harmonic balancer in good repair. like it isn't wobbling or the rubber wears out and they pull back towards the timing covers, thus making the belts run out of alignment.

is the power steering pump pulley straight? not bent or wobbling at all.

have you tried a new belt?

thanks man it has to be either the balancer or powersteering pump because ive got a new belt on it now and it seems to stay on but only comes off when a burnout occurs thats why i only use it for cruising. i had to replace the powersteering pump not too long ago though needed one fast so i went and got myself an ED pump are they the same as the EB ones?

But the belt that i got on seems to be a little bit loose, i got it from super cheap and in the book it says it suits EB II ford but its still a little loose when tightened should this be the case or should the belt be really tight. ?

the belt should have about 1cm of deflection. look at your harmonic balancer when the engine is running. does it wobble. or see it the back of it is touching the timing marks. thats what my old one did. ground the tips of the timing marks off

If the belts loose its gonna pop off. Tighten it first.

sounds like a good reason to do a serpentine conversion.

In my ED, i kept throwing belts with bosch belts.

I then used Motorcraft belts and no issues.

What brand you using? Recommend only Motorcraft and if you have to Dayco otherwise.

Motorcraft one is about $22 from Ford

EB2LOW: Yeh man ive been using bosch belts and they are s**t. i might have to get me a motorcraft one cause its gettin ridiculous. thanks mate

Bosch belts are s**t, Gates or Dayco are the way to go for after market belts.

Is the idler pulley & bearing in good condition? Belt isn't being installed too loose or tight is it?

Cheers

alright might ave to get a few of them belts. yeh the pulley is pretty good nic, i think its either the powersteerin pump or harmonic balancer... but hopefully it just needs a proper belt easy fix..

thanks :)

you could just walk outside. start it, look at the alignment of the pulleys and make sure they aren't wobbling
