Hi all, someone was trying to tell me that an extra injector would do wonders performance wise. Was he just talking s**t?

Cheers.

Yep he was talking s**t.
Only reason an extra injector would do wonders for performance is if you weren't getting enough fuel.

If your engine is blown, an extra injector can increase the fuel flow.. but so can a high volume fuel pump and rising rate reg. And the later options are less likely to screw it up worse.

Nothing wrong with extra injectors controlled by an old school microfueller or something, got more control over fuelling then a rising rate reg thats for sure!

an extra injector unless monitored and tuned right and positions correctly would only do a minut amount of incresed preformance...

it prolly would if the car was like a throttle body injectoion or carby setup

would only make the other 6 work less and you'd loose resolution in reguards to the pulse width of the injection, making it harder to tune.

+ run a rich as hell at wot. the e series injectors are big enough anyway

Yes they did. I have seen an AIT EA turbo at a car yard with the 7th injector tapped in behind the throttle body.

cheers...

ive always wondered bout turb'd 6 running an extra cfi injector placed directly opposite the throttle body flange in the bbm.

as i understand they work much like a carby with secondary and primary injectors of different size. so some possible adjustment there but would still need some brains to control it.

Thanks all,

Thought it was fairly pointless without a turbo or something.

how dose this work and conect
i know the ones before the throttle body is called water/meth injection which is conected to a seperate pump and tank which squirts out methanol and water 50/50 into the intake this helps it not ping as much and give it higher octane
but what the hell is an extra injector any one got any pics or info cheers?

Have a look on Autospeed.com they did a write up on it if I remember correctly..

On a standard engine.. (I mean not blown or spinning a massive cam) it wouldn't be of much help and would just over richen the AFR... meaning more fuel use, probably harder starting, surging idle etc.

IF you have turbo or SC and actually need more fuel, an extra injector is one way this could be done.

autospeed have some photos of it from memory..

From memory, there's a major Eurpoean manufacture who built a rather strong V8 that used an extra injector as a cold start device.

They are a good idea when used for the proper application. As a cold start device, it was used to richen the mixture as would a choke on a carbie engine.

I'm not saying old mate is wrong in the above statement. Just that some designers did things differently then as to what is done now.
