i would also go for a ed xr.
std its lighter than the ef/ef,and you can mod parts from the later models to fit.
making the old ed a much better car overall..

maybe im a bit biased because i own an early e series..
but i wouldnt swap my box car for no ef or el.. :)

EF-EL look way better than boxcars in general, plus boxcars are showing there age, they look like boxy volvos!

Interior, exterior, power, refinement, nvh...all better in late eseries. Why buy the inferior car?

EF-EL ftw

I think it is up to the individual to decide which looks better. In my own opinion the boxcars look much better, especially the rear end. And get your eyes checked if you think they look like Volvos. LOL

The rest, like the interior, NVH refinements etc can all be fitted to the earlier cars.

In the end, it will come down to your own personal preference, and what deal comes along during the search.

I hope you find the right falcon for yourself.

Cheers
BenJ

Buy an ED fairmont and put a EL/EF XR front on it! Easy! :P

But why do you want a huge sound system in a sports type car? the extra weight just defetes the purpose of having the extra power!

Light + Power = wweeeeee!

Privatly you would be looking at about $300 upwards. From a wrecker prolly close to $1000. Its a hassle you dont need really but you gotta make your own mind up I guess.

the base block is the same from ea to el..except there was a few differences in crank balancing as they got newer.

the au is the same shape but its different internaly (different crank, different rocker ratio, stronger bottom end!ect)
also the accesories mount slightly different.
the au non vct is the one ive put in my ea and the vct is the same bottom end as the std au. but the head is different(variable cam timing)

the vct has 172 kw vs 164kw for au xr6 non vct vs 157kw for std au.
the au is a much smoother revving engine. but the el would be the cheaper/easiest one to fit..
