hey fellas,
i have had this huge argument with one of my good mates about my car vs his car and then my car vs his mums car.
My car is a '93 ED XR6  , i have got Pacemaker Ph 4480's and a hi-flow cat but the rest is stock, his car is a 1972 valiant ranger with a 265 hemi motor, i looked it up and that should (not 100% sure) have ruffley 151kw (he admits its gettin old), his is 3-speed manual and mine is a 4-speed auto, who would win in a race???
The second is my car again but against his mum's car which is a 1996 5.0L V8 Fairlane, its all stock 4-speed auto, who do u guys think would win in a race???

Thanks
Dylan

your car should beat his mums car(similar power less weight better final drive ratio), and im pretty sure it would beat his car as well (its old, less power)

1996 fairlane is NF not NC, plus, didnt the ED XR6 come out with 161kW as apposed to the NF fairlane with 165kW, my guess is the fairlane would win cause of the extra torque. No idea about the old s**t

I'd say the Valiant would win. Have you seen tehm? Worked ones are off the show. Bloke at work owns a few (one of every body shape avaliable he tells me, except for a hurst and he's actually busy trying to get one). He eats WRX's and that for breakfast in his Coupe!

The 265 Hemi's held the title of fastest Aussie 6 banger road car until teh EA 5 speed. The R/T E49 Chargers (the Valiants version of the XR6) do a quater mile quicker than FPV's new Typhoon! And it's 30 odd years older!
One of the only reasons why the Valiants arn't as famous/popular as thge old Ford V8's are because tehy never won Bathurst. The best they got was 2nd, and remember they were I6 engines with 3 speed gearbox racing against Ford V8's with 4 speed gearboxs, to come second is bloody ghood in my opinion!

The 265 Hemi engines are wild as. Just rebuilt one with a mate. He bought a Vj Valiant with a 246, it now has 265 bottom end and 245 hi flow head, Lukey extractors and exhaust, Crow cam and that. They've only just finished setting up the carby so I havn't seen it run yet...

yeah i love the good old valiants,
but the only thing he has on me is weight, mine is 1590kg and his is around the mid 2 low 1400kg.
my car is 161kw stock plus the extractors add abit more go. i looked up my car at FPV (they only have the EBII) but that is the same car mine just has the Quad lights and it is 7.5sec 2 100km/h and 15.5 1/4mile and i looked up his mums on Red Book and it says that the 5.0L V8 fairlane runs 8.1 secs 2 100km/h but it didnt have the 1/4mile.
The EBII had the same motor as mine.

i have looked up the valiant 2, the pacer of that year (pacer with 265hemi had 218hp/162kw) so it has abit more power then his car but they use 2 run 7.6seconds 0-100km/h and 15.9seconds 1/4mile.

what does every1 else still recon???

yea i know...but my mates mum has a nc...which he talks up all the time...so i was just wondering :P
and ed would be way lighter than the fairlane...its shorter...has less wieght...and a smaller engine with similar power out put...i guess it depends on the power to weight ratio...

From runs up at heathcote the only cars running 15.5 seconds or a little lower are cars that have exhausts, extractors, tickford heads and a cam.....doubt that yours would do 15.5, but may get in the high 15 seconds. If thats the case the fairlane may be a little slower but the valiant is old so may be a bit run down

It's really a tough call. I'd say the XR6. Stock, the Fairlane is slow. The Valiant appears old, so the old ED gets my vote.

you'd beet em all .
the old fairlane's got the power and torque over you but there a luxo barge / slugg ,good for the finer things in life just not the performance things
as for the hemis they were good in there day ,but you would smoke it easier than the fairlane.

providing there both stock

ummm no. not much in it but the typhoon is quicker over 1/4 by nearly .5 sec.

I had a run against an old Hemi Valiant (the last ones) on the hwy a few years back in my EA Spac 3speed, I couldnt pull away and neither could he.
Dunno if it was manual or auto though.

Now my ED XR6 is quite a bit quicker than the EA....

7.5sec 2 100km/h and 15.5 1/4mile for an EB XR6

0-100 km/h - 7.3 seconds; Standing 400m - 15.1 seconds. is what they claim for my Sprint

Overquoting and underquoting, do manufacturers ever tell the truth with performance figures?
