HI,
i installed a genuine ford cruise control into an EF Gli with ABS. took about 1.5hrs to install and worked for about 6months. Now it doesn't work. You can turn the cruise control on (the dashboard light turn on) but when the set + button is pushed, it wont engage. i have changed the: -cruise control buttons -Cruise Control Module and unpluged the Automatic Transmission Jumper Plug then repluged it again. still doesn't work. who has any idea of wtf is going on ??? cheers

faulty brake switch - ie the cruise module thinks the brake is on all the time?

check that your brake lights are operating properly.
if they're not, then its as Happy said

the brake switch was changed and the problem is still there. any more ideas ???

dunno how the EF cruise is setup, but on my EB the linkage for the cruise servo came off the throttle body.
so when the cruise thought it was actuating the throttle, it wasnt even connected.. |

Should also check the clutch switch because it looks like you have a manual. I had a problem where the clutch was worn and wouldnt come back all the way and touch the switch on the pedal. I ended up getting a new clutch and cruise control worked fine.
To check if it is that when your driving get your foot under the clutch pedal and lift it towards you and then try your cruise control. If it works then either the switch or the clutch is worn. If it doesnt work then I have no idea. Cheers |

You may have a faulty or disconnected pressure switch on the master cylinder.

Why do cruise controls (on at least all so equiped cars I have driven) not have a neutral sensor for the cruise? Manuals can slip out of gear, Auto's have the same problem if you move the lever to neutral while the cruise is active. Worst still for the LPG mob that don't have rev limiters. Cheers TW.

Cheers TW. Funny but I have thought the same thing. My sister has a 1988 Honda Accord, and a friend has a 1984 Mazda 626, both auto's and both with neutral switches on their cruise controls. Yet my fairlane you slip it into neutral and the cruise revs it guts off. 
Funny how one car manufacturer thinks of one thing and another doesn't.
