Ive got an EF Futura and every now and then when i try to start it it doesnt start (sorta like a flat battery thing) but the battery is completely fine. Then when i hit under the steering column or turn the lights on then try to start it starts. Does anyone know why. I have a mate with an EB and his does the same. What is with this?

my ef won't even try to start sometimes when i turn the key (it seems to think it's in gear when actually it is in park). my dad made some wire that bypasses the gear check (i.e. by passes the ingition system checking that the car is in park or neutral before starting) and this works (just touch the end of the wire to the pinky one on the ignition barrel - still have to turn the key or it won't work) on the odd occasion when it does it. dunno if this is the same as your problem?

Similar problem to what I had with the ED. Mine turned out to be the battery terminals being to dirty and not getting a good connection.

Battery Terminal Cleaner? aka Wire Brush.
then dab a lil bit of grease around it.
hell you may aswell take it out and charge her overnight and add some battery inhibitor or distilled water (if unsealed type)

=)

is it auto? ive seen a ef wagon do the same thing, was the inhibitor switch on the gearbox, the lever wasnt adjusted right and if you hit the dash the selector would vibrate and the switch would work properely, took a while to figure that one out

I had the exact same thing and if you get the ticking it means the car isn't getting enuff juice from the battery due to crud build up, i went and spent $25 on a gold plated audio terminal as it has extra holes for all your wires and gold won't get the build up. change it and that should fix your starting probs.
As to the car thinking it's in gear crawl underneath and have a look at the side of your tranny for a fairly big plug and make sure that's in proper if it is pull it out and put it back in as my olds car had that prob and when i removed it and put it back in they never had another prob.

Hope that helps
