Hi all i have had a bit of low down vibration for a while now ,pretty sure its the H B but in the last few days the engine has started to knock a bit ,but doesn't sound like big ends i have had harmonic balancers on other cars that knock like this ,Q. do the ford H B's knock when need replacing & are ef & el H B 's the same eg can i use an ef one on an el ? as spare parts listing & ebay show them as the same ,doe's the clock pulse(ef) for crank sensor come off ?

EF/EL Balancers are the same, you believe you can also use an AU balancer.

Does anyone know if the ef el harmonic balancer knocks when stuffed ? swc said he thinks an AU hb will fit. so does anyone know for sure if EF,EL,AU are all the same harmonic balancer ?

the knock you are hearing - is it the actual balancer - or the crank / rods because the balancer is not doing its thing? If so I'd be worried about the bearings or even breaking the crank... don't think you should use it until you are sure....

its not a big end knock its very minor & can only here it at idle ,& i get a slight vibration at 1100rpm so i will replace it with a power bond one

That knock could be rods/pistons.....also could be loose torque converter bolts.
When the engine mounts in them stuff up, they make the car shake.
