Hi Guys,

I have a '95 EF with Pacemaker extractors & a hi-flow CAT (see profile).

I want to replace my exhaust system from the CAT back with some kind of hi-flo sports system that will give me a deep smooth note, and hopefully better performance & response, too!

I've had a couple of people tell me I should go with a 2.5" straight-thru' system, with only a small hotdog in the middle, and some sort of 3" combined resonator & tailpipe on the end. What do you think?

I will probably wind up going to some muffler specialists here in Perth (I only know Mettam's Mufflers, Ian Diffen's etc.), so I would really appreciate it if you guys could:

1. Suggest what type of system I should ask for

2. Suggest any good muffler specialists here in Perth (get typing, you WA guys!)

argh! read threads already, SEARCH!

All you need to do to get more sound is a free-er flowing muffler and just 1 resonator at the back ..

so extractors -> cat -> free flow muffler -> resonator -> tips.. no ebay s**t as it wont even fit behind your car.

you can pick up a redback 2.5" free/high flowing muffler for about $150-200 fitted.

The fact is, I'm not a complete exhaust novice ...I was just too lazy to fully explain my problem!

Here goes...

I had a 2.5" Lukey put on from CAT back on my STD EF system (largish muffler, staggered inlet & outlet), and I was very happy with it in terms of response & note..

I then had pacemakers & a Hiflo CAT fitted to this system, but I found the note changed, and the response was not as smooth..

I then got Mettam's mufflers here in Perth to cut out the existing muffler & replace it with a smaller, but more straight-thru' style muffler. OK at first, but then note started sounding like a wet f@rt & response sluggish...

So, now I have Pacemakers, Hiflo CAT, 2.5" Lukey with replacement straight-thru' muffler in centre of system, with bend over the rear axle into a small hotdog, with chrome pipe welded on end.

The chrome pipe welds are not the best, quite a few gaps that I can feel are blowing at idle ...and car still sounds like a loud wet f@rt!

Still a bit sluggish compared to before I had pacemakers fitted, too!

I've just got to the point where the whole thing is pissing me off so much, that I am considering just replacing my whole system from CAT back with something that is un-chopped, i.e. just a new 2.5" system!

I guess I could try puttying & bandaging up the s**t welds around my tailpipe, as I'm sure they're blowing quite loudly at higher revs!

Might just be easier to replace entire CAT-back system, though...

On mine i had extractors -> "freeflow cat" (lpg muwha) -> high flow muffler -> resonator before tips, then dual tips.

it sounded quite loud and was very clear right through out and very throaty. sounds like your system is there onw, remember tho. tips do muffle the sound at the end of it.. an oval tip from a twin lipped tip sounds different too.

Just to let you know I had the car on a hoist this week, and everything looked fine apart from the big holes in the tip welds.

I got the muffler guys to weld a 3" Stainless Steel un-lipped tip on to replace my 2.5" Chrome lipped, and everything is now sweet as!

I really think the weld holes & the lip of my old tip were the culprits!

So now I have Pacemakers>Hiflo CAT>Freeflo muffler>single hotdog>3" Round SS tip = loud & throaty, not f@rt!

remove your tailpipe and fit a droopey tip in it's place (might be a good idea to make a fake tip for the bumper bar). that'll at least eliminate some of the flow restrictions caused by the bends to get over the diff. and best of all, you get a cool echoing noise from under the car at idle.
