Hey guys, just got a couple of little problems for anyone who is able to offer some help...

1 - As of today I'm on my 4th brake light switch in just over 12 months. I've been using aftermarket switches and after awhile (2-8 months) the brake lights just get stuck on (as opposed to the usual no brake lights at all when the switch dies). Obviously there's another problem somewhere, I just don't know what. Someone did suggest to me that the wiring connector for the switch has gone bad?

2 - Flashing courtesy lights... I did a search and couldn't find this one anywhere. I've only seen it a handful of times but I seem to have randomly flashing interior lights. It's a very short flash once every few seconds - it actually seems a similar pattern to the Smartlock dash light, but the only times I've seen it have been at night, whilst the car is running/driving. As far as I know it's all the interior courtesy lights (which have been replaced with LEDs, could this be causing issues?)

I'm thinking a trip to an auto-elec might be in order but if anyone has any ideas as to why my car is being spastic I'd be very grateful.

Cheers!

Interior lights issue could be a dodgy door switch, most likely drivers door as it is the one most used.

Not sure on the go with the other issues.

Actually my drivers one is dodgy, sometimes takes 5+ seconds for the lights to come on after you open the door.

They often are. Swap it out for another, or take it out and clean the wiring, spray the switch with silicone spray or something and actuate it several times and clean it out. Make sure its earthing well through the screws etc. Normally they come good after a play.

With the brake light switch, check that the spacers and plastic bushes are there and in the correct spot. Theres a few bits around it on the shaft that need to be there otherwise they will keep dying. Wouldn't hurt to check the wiring and plug too. What brand switches are you using?

Thanks, I'll have a look at the door switch and replace it if I have to.

As for the brake light switch, I've been using Tridon ones from Bursons. Also I am 99% sure there is one of the spacers missing, it's been like that as long as I've had the car but after having a look in the workshop manual I'm pretty sure I am missing one.. they would be available from a dealer spare parts place, no?

Thanks again guys.

If it isn't the door switch for the courtesy lights
It could be a fault in the bcm
Maybe the circuit for the smart lock light is shorting to the courtesy light circuit or something?

The bits are available from Ford, ask Papa Smurf. He should be able to help with a diagram, part numbers and pricing. That should fix it up.

I'm using a Tridon switch and it seems fine. I had the same problem, kept going through them and figured out some bits were missing. Set it all up correctly and so far so good!

Fantastic, thanks for that.

I did think it might be something like that, I just have no idea how to go about finding it/fixing it. I'll start with the door switch I guess but after that I'm fairly clueless haha.
