Just bought an ef fairmont series 2. It has tickford badges and the motor has xr6 badges on it. Did the fairmont come out standard with the xr6 engine or was it an option? Does anyone know what the specs are for this car?

If its a fairmont ghia, it is most likely got the tickford upgrade, easiest way to tell is the engine block has a red head instead of green.

If you look on the front of the head right where the head meets the block it should have a "T" symbol on the front which indicates a tickford head. If it doesn't then it will be a standard.

fairmonts usualy just had either the pov 4.0 gli engine or the 5.0 v8 engine.. in the fairmont ghia's im sure you could upgrade to the "Tickford pack" that included the 4.0 litre xr6 engine 164 kw, the skirt kit and the 3.45 lsd diff..

im pretty sure the series 2 ghias had the xr6 engine standard.

sounds like the xr6 badges have just been stuck on there

It is a series 2 ghia. It doesnt have the red rocker cover but it has some mesh stuff on one side of the engine, I think it may have had some other work done. Im pretty sure it has the xr6 gearing ratios when its not in economy mode as it goes pretty hard. It has a 21/2 exhaust but needs extractors, think it has a chip as well. I will look for the T that is meant to be engraved into the block. It has been serviced and worked on by peek performance in Sydney, anyone know anything about these guys? It has two small oil leaks from the sump gasket and rear main so the engine has to come out. Anything else I should get done while the engine is out of the car?

the T is embossed in the front of the head.. not the block..
(just so you dont miss it )
