Yeah go premium. go buy a bottle of octane booster from you local car shop for that tank.. Pinging is bad, for blowing head gaskets or detination..

Find whats wrong !! No point in spending $$ to get around problem!!
When was fuel filter last replaced ?? Check vac line to fuel reg... Run colder plugs or double check heat range?? Run some E10 through it ?? But make sure there's no water intank!!
Sounds like it could be carbon build up in cylinders, a good long drive ? Try some Subaru cylinder cleaner ??

I couldn't agree more. A stock falcon 6 SHOULD NOT ping if there is nothing wrong!!! Using higher octane is just a bandaid fix!

Find the problem, no more pinging.

Replace your fuel filter and check the fuel pump sock.

Knock sensor may be faulty or the wrong temp plugs are in there.

Fuel filter severly blocked?

I'd change that as well. I had one that I took off my old EF and I couldn't even blow through it. But the fuel pressure could just get passed.

I recommend Ryco Z373 because they have an aluminium housing that allows it to seal heaps easier than a hard metal housing.

Dont think this will do much, its just there to see which stroke cylinder one is on, all the timing reference is done from the crank sensor. In theory it should be redundant after the first revolution of the cam.
