I have an EF Ghia. Seems my problems at the moment stem from a floating ground (There is up to .5v difference from the battery earth to the block).

Now seeing as this is the *major* connection - this presents a problem : o2 sensors see .5v more, or less etc etc.

The AU seems to have a strap back to the body from the engine as well (A decent one), and the EB also had one.

Is this a common problem on the EF?

A lot of people add an extra Earth strap on all makes and models,

I myself have added another earth from battery to block and block to chassis.

Is there any change after cleaning the block connection and the battery post connection ???
What resistance are you getting from the engine earth strap ??

I cleaned the existing connections when I put the AU Engine in : I was *very* suprised that I had that much drop.

It was very measurable at .2-.3v during the day, and at night (Additional lighting load) it is higher - enough that the car struggles to run.

The EB used to have a strap from the gearbox to chassis as well.

I will be getting all 3 straps replaced I think tomorrow : $40 isnt a lot to pay for peace of mind. Im hoping I can get some custom ones done up at a welding shop.

I have a 0ag wire hose clamped to the O2 sensor and connected back to the gas earth. Thats the only sensor that matters for my LPG.

He he he - and oddly enough, its the only one that really gives me problems right now - its affecting petrol as well but not as much.

Im actually thinking of moving my LPG earth to the o2 Sensor instead.

but - if theres floating volts anywhere it also means the radiator tends to get hit with electrolysis as well - and the head gasket - and the head.

You still need a solid earth from block to motor and block to battery.

I had an earthing problem in my ef so i cleaned the batterey to block cable and the little earth near the header tank and there is an earth on the passenger side under the intake manifold behind the A/C pump that you can reach from under the car with the oil filter removed why ford put one there i have no idea.
