Now im kinda confused on the matter.

What actually goes? The gasket or does the head just obtain a small leak ?

Usually the head gasket mate.

The head sometimes corrodes and causes leaks out the side or into the cylinder.

Check a few things things...
1. Is it using coolant up? If it is then there is probably a leak from one of the coolant ducts either out the side of the motor or into a cylinder.
2. Is the engine oil milky at all? If it is then there is more than likely a leak into one of the cylinders.
3. Get a compression test done and see if any of the cylinders are down on compression. If two cylinders are down then there is probably a gasket blow out between those two cylinders.

Hope that helps mate.

So say i get the car all is fine i heard alot of people put the AU gasket in to prevent the head from corroding at all eliminating the problem.

How much does this cost to get done

Using an AU head gasket will not prevent the head from corroding.

Using good coolant will prevent head corrosion.

Au head gaskets are metal core gaskets and are therefore stronger than the pre-AU head gaskets. It just means that AU gaskets last longer as they don't blow out as easily.

The main reason that gaskets blow on 90's model Falcons is that the engine block is made from cast iron and the head is alloy. This means that the head and the block expand and contract at different rates when they heat up and cool down.

As for the good old "how much will it cost?" question. Honestly, how long is a piece of string? I've seen people pay mechanics as much as $2500 to do a head gasket changeover.

I did mine myself for under $250.

Mechanics usually charge at least $1000 to do a head gasket.

Buy a Gregory's manual for your car and follow the instructions to the letter.

Why fix it if it aint broke? Do the head gasket if the current one blows...

Are you going to buy new brake pads, new clutch, new tires as well?? It's your money but it seems like a pointless exercise to me..

Because the results of a cooked head can be more costly than the other things you mentioned. Or the symptoms of a leaking headgasket can cause you to pull your hair out thinking its something else

I'll be doing the same thing if i ever buy another e-series

Thats stupid

Changing the head gasket is preventing a larger problem.

Doing any of those is not.
