I've been offered an 1994 EF GLi 4.0 but it has 270,000 K's on the clock. To me it seems like alot of K's for a 1994 model. The current owner is a mechanic and he put a new fuel pump on it and the engine runs smooth and quiet.
With the info provided above would it be best to stay away from an EF with this amount of K's?

if its been looked after, had regular maintainence and not flogged or beaten around on limiter half its life the engine should be ok. Ive seen EF's still going strong at 350,000.

gearbox im not sure. aut or man? does anyone know the life span of the ef boxes

meh - between my 3 cars, they've racked up 725,000kms and have done 2 head gaskets between them over that time, no diffs, no autos, nothing besides regular servicing! :P

It is hard to tell. A car with 300,000 on the clock that has been regularly serviced will be in better condition than a car with 150,000 that has been neglected.

I would go more by the condition of the body and interior. 2nd hand parts are so cheap these days - you could replace the engine, gearbox and diff for under $1k if you shop around and do your own work.
