Ok heres the problem. Having problem starting sometimes it does others it doesnt. If I keep turning the key eventually it will turnover and start. I have had the starter motor out and done the out of vehicle test it works fine. I have tried another starter motor it still does it. What could it be? Is it the ignition switch? Is it the smartlock system PLEASE Help?

Sounds like the typical BEM (body electrics module).

These are VERY common to have dry joints.

To diagnose, you would treat it as normal, Crank away... no good? Keep cranking while you smack the panel at your left knee.

If it goes, then theres your problem.

Do a search,

Bem replacement, smartlock etc.

When replacing these, you need to reprogram your remote fobs, and also the smartlock has to learn the ignition barrel (same if the ignition barrel is your cause of your malfunction)

Both very very easy, and should only waste around 45minsute of your time.

Pull the cover off your steering column. Check the back of your ignition barrel. See if it is loose. That is what happened to mine. But I also lost all Accessories power.

Cam.

I had the same problem on my EBII Fairmont.
Try thumping the top of the dashboard while turning the key to crank the engine. Works everytime for me.....good luck :)

My ef ghia does it nearly every second day. Just hold the key to the start position and bash the steering wheel with your left hand. Will replace BCM soon.
