Hi all,

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times, I'm new to the forums and have had a search around and cant seem to find the answer..

Are the EA - EL maunal gearbox all the same make and quality? I understand that they are all Borg Warner (dunno if that's spelt correctly) T5s but did BG only manufacture the one gearbox and Ford used them throughout the EA - EL GL - XR8 range?

I'm looking for a quality manual gearbox that I can recondition that will withstand some serious engine mods, just short of a forced induction setup.

Thanks in advance guys!

EA - EL T5 is the same.

The T5 can handle a fair amount of power.

Sweet! 8-)

Is it costly to recondition one back to original standard? Are there any sorts of reinforced/heavy duty parts I can get installed?

V8s and 6s had different length input shafts, and early boxes, EA and Eb series one i think had no synchro on reverse, but im not sure.

EA-EB1 had a shorter first gear and no reverse synchro. Other than that, they're pretty much the same.

Also different bearing setup.

The later (WC) boxes have tapered roller bearings in the counter shaft.

Yes, it will go straight in.

You also need the bell housing and all clutch components, dont forget the manual pedal box or the Mallwood clutch pin if you want to use your 'auto' pedalbox.

also note that a 6cly engine requires a 6cyl gearbox, and a 8cyl requires..... a 8cyl gearbox.

So the input shaft is the same? Awesome.
Is there a way to change to box without pulling off the bellhousing? Or will I have trouble getting the throwout bearing back in place
