OK....done a few searches and all I found were arguements about re-torquing.

Now, I'm gonna replace my head gasket before it blows because I can tell its starting to leak coolant. A few questions

Question 1: AU gasket is the way to go form everything I've heard. Now which brand is the best for this? or am I looking at genuine?

Question 2: Because I have an EF head, should I be using the AU or EF bolts and should I be looking at the torque settings for the bolts or for the head? (ie, torque to EF settings 45NM or AU settings 35NM(i think)?)

Question 3: Looking at my current mods, I think I should get it polished and ported. How much? Any good places in Perth?

Question 4: Replacing the coolant is a must, but if there is no gunk and crap in my oil its not worth doing I take it (new oil, done 1000kms).

I think thats it, try to STAY ON TOPIC please. In advance, any and all help is appreciated.
And no, you don't have to re-torque!

I get asked about this quite often at work and that.
Basically the reason why people want AU head gasket is because it's metal or something I think?
But when I look on the computer the listing for EF/EL I6 is the same as the AU one. And when I've got it out of stock they tell me that that is the AU one. So basically what I'm saying is if you go into say a Repco store and ask for the EF I6 head gasket you should end up with the AU one anyways! I guess somebody figured it was better and so they only do the AU one now. We use ACL which are a pretty huge mob and that.

As for head bolts I think there the same between EF - AU. Might be wrong though.
And for the torque settings it will say on the packet of the head gasket - so I would go for that.

It never hurts to change your oil.

There IS a difference between EF and AU head bolts.
The bolts are supposed to be self-adjusting on both (to allow for expansion of head/block), but the E series head bolts fail after awhile, causing the head gasket issue.

If you take it to a shop, they will use AU head bolts for this reason, along with the steel AU gasket (which is thinner, boosting compression slightly).

I'm not taking it to a shop, I'm doing it myself.

Thats why I want to know which one to use.

So, AU gasket and head bolts.

AU metal gaskets are only avaliable from FORD.

AU Headbolts, AU is 35nm then 120deg after that. (pretty sure thats right)

No idea, but how much power you thinking of putting through the engine, these things sound impressive, but most the time dont make power, although you dont have the head off often so make a wise decision.

If the oil is good, then leave it as is, otherwise change it, its your call, but no real need to do it, simply cause you change the head gasket.

AU head gasket - ER 6051 A
Headbolts - AU 6065 A
(same from EA-AU now)

someone did say that they used to be different but they are the same now.

remi u will need to drain your coolant first, u might as well change the oil as there is a good chance that some coolant will spill into the oil NOT GOOD )

also a gasket matching ( were the ports are matched to the intake/exhaust gaskets ) is a good idea or a very mild port job

i work at an auto pro store and the head bolts come up as the same part no. and in acl ect the only difference in the gasket is the rubber part on the front (wich most mechanics dont fit and use silastic or urathane)as for the genuine metal gaskets i cant say i know about the coz i dont sell them and i dont own sixs :D

Now when it comes to port matching and port jobs do you know any good places?

torque settings are gasket specific.. not head or bolt specific

change your exhaust and inlet manifold gaskets while your there, saves them needing to be done for yonkers in the future!
also do your rocker co9ver and maybe the rocker cover bolt seals
