i have an EF xr6 and i have driven AU xr6 with the vct and mine would give it a good run they are not what they are all cracked up to be as for reving the AU will rev to nilly 6000 where the ef will go 5700 who revs that far anyway, i think if you look after the car and check things on a regular basis the EF wont s**t it self but that is like everyhting, abuse it and it will f**k up quick smart.

AU would be better if you are gonna keep it for a long time

i goin to keep my ef till it is the same era as an XD hehe

id honestly go a vx/vy holden over a AU - not saying they dont drive nice, as they do, but the looks, resale value - OUCH!
Stick it out with the e-series, best bang for buck car around in the price rangne IMHO unless your willing to go mitsubishi which has bad resale also n decent drive.

it is abit of a dilemma...

at the end of the year im lookin at taking dads car, May 96 EF fairmont (so nearly an EL) as he is gettin a newie. but ive kinda got a feelin about an AU2 xr6, will have to save quite abit of extra dough tho. and then, the lure of a v8 had grabbed me again.

the way im looking at this point is
1) Take dads EF 6 fairmont, he can sell my car insted then star workin on that
2) Sell mine at the end of the year for hopefully 8-9k, as long as prices stay up and buy an EL v8 fairmont/ghia, which ever i can get my grubby hands on, and work that up
3) save longer, sell mine and have to use ~10k extra from my pocket to get an AU2 xr6.

thinking all that, the ef/el looks alot better, they are older with more k's but i can save close to 8k or there about by taking dads, or selling mine for a v8 fairmont (EL) and using the money on doing it up.

either an ef 6 or an el 8 fairmont with 5+k spent on it takes my fancy more than a bog stock au2 xr6 at the point, not to mention i can have it sooner too.

keeps opinions coming, his decision could make mine easier also!

EF were the better looker. But the AU's seem to have a better I6 engine because they ironed out all the bugs, such as the over heating and headgasket issues which plagued ans till does the EF & EL's. Remember those AU Ads were Peter Wherret was saying the AU Falcon could drive 100km's with no coolant in the motor due to a new safety mechanism developed for the them

as long as you keep maintanence up it will be fine but if you are mechanically disabled get something newer that you have to take to the manufacturer every 15 000 to get the washer bottle refilled

The AU's newer, more power, more refined.

As for looks, personally i think the AUIII forte, stock kicks a*** over a stock EF. The AUIII, had everything colour-coded, nice hub caps, sideskirts standard. The AU with the better brakes, & better steering. I think you'll find more power with the newer AU as well. And anyway all you need is a set of wheels and a bit of lowering and your set.

Not only that but interior wise, is much nicer than the out-dated EF. Until you test drive an AU, you won't go back. And just wait till you mod it, to make it even better.

The AU's are so easy to do up as well. Sound system is very flexible, and there are a bunch of aftermarket parts for the AU.

Just my 2c.

General public opinion of the AU - Ford's sales fell almost in half overnight when the AU was released. The VT commode was released at a similar time. The AU is technically and mechanically a far superior car to the VT in almost all respects but joe and jane average dont understand this, therefore they purchase a Holden.

My opinion - I've seen prettier abortions. No AU is attractive. Period. <-- Another period. I had an AU2 for a few weeks when they were released, as a company car. I put a sticker on the rear window from the markets "I know its ugly but its a company car". Got many cheers and thumbs up from that sticker, mainly from Ford owners :) :) :)

Your opinion - Buy one if you like it.

i love my EF, but if you got the AU, put a nice body kit on it, then it doesnt look nearly as bad as if its stock standard, and u can make it look pretty good, there are some nice AU's out there.

So Bozz, you don't like my car at all:
Image

^^ And thats just a forte

I tell you what, pretty much all the other cars and chicks out there do.

You guys are definately missing out on one... But it's ironic now, that EA-EL owners knock the AU, but diehard E-Series fans, are upgrading to AU models more and more lately.

I think it has far too many Taurus like features that aren't right.

Sales figures speak for themselves. AU monthly sales halved compared to previous E-series Fords. But its mechanically a better car. Why would this be?

It doesn't do it for me. Mind you I think my EL Fairmont looks rather average too but it is the most suitable car for me because I dont have room for a real sports car and a tow car.
