Hi All
I have what appears to be a pinhole leak in the side of mY EF radiator. Appears to be at a molding seam (yes it's plastic)-any ideas on how to fix this , is their some magic gkue or what ever. I would like to try to avoid putting additives in the coolant. Thanks in advance. cheers

Yeah chances are she's very blocked and heat and/or pressure has caused the seam to break down. Had this happen on mine a while back. You can have the side tank replaced and they will most likely core out the radiator at the same time. For a little more $$$, can get a brand spanker. There's a seller on ebay, (just search for falcon radiator). They're about $180 delivered, just a standard replacement. Personally i wouldnt try and repair the tank.

Those s**t plastic radiator tanks are always bursting. You're just lucky you got some advance warning and weren't 28Km's from home in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday when it dropped it's bundle (as what happened with my Dads GLi a while back). Any even remotely reputable radiator place should have a whole bunch of replacement tanks available as it's such a common problem. I'm not sure replacing the whole radiator would be such a good idea (assuming it's otherwise OK), just put a new tank on and she'll be as good as gold (until it fails again...). While you're at it you may want to check and possibly replace all the heater pipes running around the engine as these too have a tendency to corrode or leak.

Would it be the top tank? that's the one on the air box side, with the top radiator hose. This tank gets very brittle with age, it is not worth repairing it. You will need to either replace the tank or replace the radiator.
Prices I was quoted late last year was $110 to replace both tanks-clean core-refit with new seals. Or $180 for a new radiator. with 12month warranty

New radiator purchased and ready for install, any tips ?? Cheers Dont start the engine with the trans cooler lines disconnected!!!! Nah, VERY straight forward mate. Remove the the thermo fans. Disconnect the trans cooler lines (if auto). Disconnect lower hose first... then top hose... then side hose (one that goes to header tank, has a spring clip on it) and overflow hose (spring clip again). Remove the two bolts at the top and pull her out. Make sure the rubber insulator pads are seated correctly (they have mounts at bottom of engine bay - you'll see). You'll probably have to transfer the grommets from the original radiator - i.e. the ones which the two bolts at the top sit in.

when refilling, fill radiator up then start engine with cap off. Run engine at about 1000rpm (I use a feeler gauge between the throttle lever and the idle stop) until hot coolant is flowing in the header tank, this ensures that the thermostat is open and all air should be out of the system.

heh i busted mine by doing 70km/h across a rather large drop on some roadworks... got airborne and smacked down hard on the front crossmember. passenger side tank split right down the side. Not to mention the skid marks on the seats..

Yeah any radiator shop should be able to do this.

You can most definately replace just the tanks, I had 3 quotes from differant places to replace just the tanks on mine. I ended up with replacing the whole radiator.
