hey guys, how hard is it to convert an ef motor to suit an el?

we have an ef here doing nothing so my brother and i were going to pull it out and rebuild it for an el. i've suggested us changing it over to match an el then putting it into my car while we rebuild the motor out of my el. manly so that i don't have to get a mod plate to have a diffrent motor in my car, and plus my motor is a hybird so i'd like to keep it in the car,

when i rebuild it i plan on a cms stage 3 head and cam

Cheers Mitch

the biggest thing to swap is the dizzy into the ef motor as ef is coil pack and the el is dizzy

Harmonic balancer is different... EL doesn't require the tone wheel because you don't need a crank angle sensor... Irrespective I'd leave the EF balancer and sensor on it and just not connect them...

You'll pull out the cam angle sensor and stick dizzy in its hole...

And you'll unbolt the coil pack and fit the coil there instead...

Would be easier to pull the engine loom off the EL and use that... Will plug straight in then... Too hard to mod the EF loom...

Would be harder to convert and EL engine to EF because then you would need to fit the right balance and the crank angle sensor and I've never looked but it may require a different timing case to fit the crank sensor...

Your conversion is fairly straight forward...

i put a spare ef engine i had from my first car into the el and all i did was:

1.You'll pull out the cam angle sensor and stick dizzy in its hole...

2.And you'll unbolt the coil pack and fit the coil there instead...

3.Would be easier to pull the engine loom off the EL and use that... Will plug straight in then... Too hard to mod the EF loom...

you also dont need a mod plate for the engine swap, its the same engine just with different bolt ons, and once the bolt ons are swapped its as good as an el engine

you let the rta(or who ever is in charge up your way) know of the engine swap and they just put it on the computer, if you crash and it has the wrong engine in the car and rta havent been notified insurance can be not payed out aparently, thats just hear say though, if its not going to be in there long before the original one gets dropped back in i wouldnt worry about it

How are they going to tell the difference? other than engine numbers?
Maybe just inform them that the engine number has changed.
