Sup Guys/Gals

I am completely new to all this so don't go too harsh on me :P

I've just picked up a 95 EF XR6 with only 125,000kms on the clock (very nice find if you ask me).

Now I've wanted one of these since my XF died the poor thing :( All i know is i want to get more power out of it, Im not too mechanicaly minded when it comes to engines but i ain't a complete dope, And I've decided i probably want to get a supercharger on it.

Now i have a few qustions, First is supercharging a good idea or should i maybe stick to smaller upgrades? I don't plan to put it on a track or such thing, But if i could find somewhere im allowed to drive it fast id be inclined to give it a go :P

Second, With such an add-on, is there any other work that needs to be done as well that me being mechanically challenged would be unaware of?

Third, Brands? Does it really matter?

Fourth, Who can i go to in Adelaide for such a job that won't laugh at me when i only understand 3% of what there gonna say to me? :D

I hope i don't sound too "Dweeby" And that one of you Guys/Gals can help me out :D

Frankie

Hi, and welcome.

Sounds like you have got a good car to begin with.

Now for the bad news.

I hope you have deep pockets, as either the supercharger or turbo options WILL cost around the $10k mark to get on the road in a reliable daily driver setup, with 200 to 250rwkws

It can be done cheaper, but they have done most of the work themselves etc, including tuning.

If that is the way you want to go, then great. There are a few members who have gone this route and can give you advice on brands etc.

If on the other hand you just want a bit more poke for day to day duties, the usual intake, extractors, exhaust, cam and maybe head work will net you from 140 to 150rwkws and that can be done for less than 1k.

Cheers
BenJ

just look his name up on google and u will find his location

turbo is a much better option tho

henrich does the whole turbo kit for your car for 5grand exactly being completly reliable

That 10k You speak of i was willing to spend on a newer car but the ban told me where to stick as i hadn't been at my job long enough :x

So price isn't too much of a factor, Can always try and barter a little as well :) So cheers BenJ for the rough idea of what i can be expecting, And cheers Paulos, will look This fella Bruce up soon enough.

When you say whole turbo kit, Do you mean single? twin? Will it be tuned after wards? Or could there possibly be more work to be done afterwards?

Perhaps i should just ring him haha, Thanks guys :D

Okay, you wont need 10K, if you can do some fitting yourself, about half that with all new gear.
If you go supercharger, Snort has just released a kit, as seen here: post1096214.html?hilit=supercharger%20snort#p1096214 and post1094589.html?hilit=supercharger%20snort#p1094589

If you go turbo, go a single:
http://www.snortperformance.com/ford_fa ... o_kits.htm

Theres a few extra bits n pieces you'll need, fuel pump, fuel reg, tune, a clutch as a stocko wont last, other bits n pieces depending on what you get. If you go supercharge you'll need a decent set of extractors (pacemaker's) and exhaust, ~$750 there.

Cheers mate, I'm starting to lean towards the turbo option, But no fitting will be done my self as honestly id have no idea what I'm doing.

So I'm aware id cop a higher price getting someone to fit it all. Basically, If i pull up along side some punk in his new VE SS i want to be able to beat him off the line. That what I'm mainly interested in ( yea kinda childish i know) But my interest for cars is more the driving side of things then knowing whats under the hood.

Cheers for the ideas tho guys :D

My 10K figure was a rough guide that should include all the extra stuff you need to do to have a completely streetable and reliable daily driver.

At $750 or more a dyno tune session the $$$ rack up pretty quickly. A good custom exhaust can be well over $500, fuel uprades, aftermarket ECU if needed, clutch upgrades, or a auto overhall/upgrade, all adds up to around the same price of the original boosted kit.

IF you are prepared and capable, or know someone, of doing your own mechanical work, and some Fab Work etc, then it can be done for much cheaper.

Cheers
BenJ

Certificate only required if you get caught. Just cut the bonnet cable, get done for a non opening bonnet instead of the non engineered upgrades..

Kidding, kidding...

Engineers should be consulted BEFORE you start to mod it like turbos, that way you can cut where they want you to cut, then they will be alot happier when you go back. if you keep them in the loop its usually a non issue.

Engineers? ok see now im lost. Is there a one place i can go and have this all done? As i said in previous posts i honestly do have no idea.

Hence my preparedness to have to pay for someone else to do all the work..

If you want power all through the rev range, go for the supercharger. It is much quicker to fit as well - unbolt intake manifold, bolt in supercharger (then fuel supply), thats about the short of it. I do think they cost more initially though.

The time it takes to fit/unfit is not an issue to me as i wont be doing any of it, If car has to be in shop for a few days easy done i live 3 mins from my work.

As i stated, i just want to be able to match and/or beat the V8s (the standard ones)

Power over more of the rev range would be preferred, so i know that its either there or very close by.

Without an engineer's approval of the work done you will be driving an un-roadworthy vehicle which = uninsurable=un-registerable=bad.

I don't like the sound of bad :( Maybe ill just stick with the extractors exhaust n cam? That won't give me what im after, but it can still sound nice and go well, Which is really all I'm after.

The supercharger/turbo is something id do if i can find a place to handle it all for me as i have no idea about any of it. I just wanna drive it

But cheers for all the topics boys and or girls, I'll have words with the bruce fella that was mentioned here in adelaide.
