I have seen some ZLs fitted with 351 V8s rebuilt for unleaded and can be shoehorned in.

The 4.1 EFI are a pain in the a*** mate, you can't do a whole lot to them as the computer can't take the changes unless you spend heaps on modifying the ecu.... You can go slightly bigger in the cam but not much, i'm pretty sure Crow have a cam for them.
Those engines should never have been EFI in my honest opinion, they always hunt and idle like s**t, even the slightest oil leak causes rough idle.

Change the diff ratio,...they are 2.77's,....knock it down to 3.23 and they go better. Make sure the oil cap gasket is good, and the dip stick seal is good. As for the rocker cover gasket, get rid of the paper one and fit a cork one, they seal better.........use contact cement to fit it to the rocker cover, and grease on the side that contacts the cyl head.

dont know about into your car but an engine conversion isnt overly difficult, and e-series engines can be had for very cheap now

you will need the ecu and looms, and possibly gearbox. I'm sure someone more knowledgable will fill you in

You could pull the slug box transmission out and replace it with a T5!

I just did mine on the weekend with very few hassles you don't even need to remove the dash to get the peddle boxes in and out (auto to manual).

Only problem for me is that the rear main has decided to leak a bit of oil I'm hoping it'll settle over the next day or 2 otherwise it's out with the gearbox again to do the rear main.

You done an XF gearbox without replacing rear main and rear welsh plug?
Man what were you thinking? That's a must on those things!

The main cause of them spitting rear mains is from people not using a tension wrench on the flywheel/flex plate, by over tightening they distort the end of the crank.

Buy a Rear ended XG ute, most parts will fit and less mods than using E series parts. For 1 the power steering is set up for a steering box and loom is the right shape.
