yes and no to the computer question... EL has a Broad Band Manifold (BBM) which opens another inlet tract at a point specified by the EL computer... alot of guys do BBM conversions to EA-ED motors and i think they use a rev actived switch. Also EL thermofans are controlled by the EL ecu. There's ways around that as well, but on the whole would be easier to get EL ecu...

i think for the same amount of money it would cost to get the el engine in, you could probably do some decent headwork to your own engine, and make it go harder than the el one.

yeah you would, cause the EB had a clutch fan.. mechanic SHOULD install thermos for you, otherwise he'd be installing an engine with no cooling system.. :P

Unless he specified that the car couldn't go below 40km/h for any period longer than 20 seconds.

Imagine telling the cop that :)

check exactly what it comes with... if it comes with ECU and thermos, you're set

I had this conversion done a few years back (2001) on an EB2. Complete swap of all origional fan gear and pulleys, origional ecu and manifold. I paid not extra money for the install (as a motor swap). Gained in the low end noticably, found it to be not quite as good on fuel as the origional. My origional motor was smoother too IMO.
