Just wonderred if the el's have a speed limiter? at say around 180 ?

Mine does, its a Fairmont, but definataly, once 180 comes its like hitting a wall

phew, i saw the $1.80 come up then the power just went, for those 5 seconds or less i thought s**t, hurt something bad. good thing to know. thanks

i have a el fatura and its limiter is set at 160 then it drops out to 3 or 4 cyls, it sucks but fairmonts must be different. (not sure)

They are all set at 180, my falcon was and so was my fairmont. Ive heard that the FBT isnt but I havent checked that yet :D

If yours cuts out at 160 I think your speedo may need some calibration

Yes.. EL Ghia speed limiter is set at 180km/h.. Been there and tested many a time..

Its the same as any EF/EL Auto non XR sedan --> All are 180km/h speed limited.

As nomad said, your speedo must be out for the car to be topping out at 160km/h.

I believe it is to do with the single piece tailshaft. Correct me if I am wrong but the xr6 and xr8 were fitted with an alloy tailshaft and don' have this restriction.

Thats my understanding as well...

I've had an XR6 Auto ECU in my car to play with, and that topped out at 215km/h in my Ghia. So it seems the XR autos are still limited, just at a higher point. So must be something to do with the addition of the alloy tailshaft.
