Started too notice the temp gauge just creep above halfway when cruising at 60-80km/hr. At 100km/hr or idle in traffic it sits nice and cool at 1/4 on gauge. Are these signs that the original 13yr old radiator is starting too get blocked and requires replacement????Thermofans are fine and tested...

BTW I took the radiator out and reversed flushed it (as per gregory's manual) and cleaned the fins but it didn't make any improvement....

Cheers..........

the radiator is getting on in age, might be due to be rodded,
the radiator joint can remove an end tank and they push a dipstick shaped tool up each tube on the core. it pushes any blockages thru, then flush it and puts it back together and pressure tests.
cost around $80

Wouldn't hurt to look at thermostat too, to be on the safe side. By the time you got the radiator rodded and cleaned and tested, it might not be much more cash to buy a new one with a warranty. Worth checking prices. My last radiator cost $180.00 for a new one and least you know what you own then.

Chances are its not only the Radiator but the thermostate as well if it hasnt been replaced i always pull the centre out of the thermostate to give better flow and to avoid it blocking and just put the outer rim back in.

get a new radiator, it's already about 4 years past it's use by date. The life expectancy of plastic radiator tanks is 7 to 9 years. you're basically driving time bomb.

tickford_6 is right and u can tell if its the original by the stickers on the radiator from ford if there still there, also ur risking the transmission as the oil coolers breakdown much faster than the radiator and thats why i believe they should be replaced every 100,000kms.

The radiator u want is an ADRAD FD001CA2 and this fins are 12.7mm apposed to standard 10mm so much better cooling and while ur there replace all radiator hoses, clamps and thermostate.

Here is my thread of my same expierence

Well I have just checked the orignal radiator ford sticker 3/97. Replacing it now with a 1yr old heavy duty radiator 35mm core thickness as opposed to stock 25mm. Radiator came from my EF futura parts car out in the back yard.

This was my Brother inlaws work car, so I know it's parts replacement history. Paid $250 driveaway for the complete car and it and it has already paid for itself now 5-6 times over and I'm yet too ebay alot of other stuff I don't need.

Cheers........

Heavy duty Radiator now installed, sits at the line just below L on the gauge.

Temp doesn't move at all, even when driving the car hard etc,

Cheers...
