gday

I have had a miss or a flat spot in my car for quite a while now and i noticed it real bad today when i was cleaning the car. I had it in neutral and it idles perfectly and is completly fine up untill about 2000rpm. When i put the throttle down a little bit the revs would slightly go up but you could feel the engine holding it self back and missing a little bit. I put my foot down a little bit more and the same thing happend but after about 2 seconds it just revved up real hard an quick. Im not sure what the problem is and my tuner couldn't work it out either a while back.

When driving the car it feels like the car is about to stall when you get to about 2200rpm, so you have to boot it to get out of the flat spot. It also starts to go away when you drive more aswell.

Any help would be awesome

Cheers

Oh what, you still have that problem as well. Im thinking it might be the dizzy but dont want to replace it if its not that.

Got the same issue...I just don't care anymore and just boot it. Struggles from about 2000 and when it hits 2500 it starts to pull.

However I have found that if I warmed the car up for about 5-10mins just idling, I get no flat spot. Smooth run for a while, depending how heavy footed I get. The more granny driving I do, the further I can go without flat spots...the more acceleration, the earlier the flat spot.

Goes the same for highway, keep acceleration constant for a couple of kilometers and hit city traffic, no flat spot. Turn the car off and back on and it has the flat spot again unless I let it idle for a couple of minutes.

So I figured it might be a fuel related issue, such as my fuel pump not being able to keep the fuel pressure correct. With an XR fuel reg, AU injectors and a fuel pump which I have never replaced, I think I can point the finger at my pump.

mmm.. seems to be common with the EL's, I no its nothing to do with the engine itself because this engine has been completely rebuilt and it has the same problem as the last one. I have always thought fuel or ignition related. I have replaced the fuel filter but not the pump.

my ute has two smaller ones. one at 2500 and another at 3000 both only last 100 or so rpm but you can feel it when you drive hard.

i can rotate mine more than 5 deg while the engine is off (the rotor) and when it stops i hear a metalic "ping" and something in the motor hits something else.

the running theory at the moment is the aux shaft is loose, and some how the retaining bolts for the aux shaft dropped out and miraculously missed the timing sprockets

i just tried just then, i cant move the cap at all. When my engine was rebuilt (35,000k ago). He took the dizzy apart and found a snapped screw sitting in the cap??? He didn't think much of and and just cleaned it and put it back together.

I'm guessing you've already done this but..........

Had similar symptons in my el under load going up hill whatever at around the same rpm, and a change of leads and plugs had it sorted (could of been either).

Had another miss whilst on light throttle, and was a leaking inlet manifold gasket.

but I'm told these are fairly common so these would of been done already.
