I would have thought so too, if you can scoure the forums, I am sure you will find someone wrecking an XR/Fairmont Ghia some where. I bought my Tickford motor for $600 or something, which included the Fairmont Ghia ECU and XR fuel regulator (not like you can't buy these aftermarket...but an extra cost saved nonetheless).

Also when you do buy the second hand engine, make sure you get a receipt with the engine number correctly written on it as part of purchase. You will need it to update your RTA of engine change. Also a good idea to get the engine number checked just in case it may be stolen.

Okay. So you said yourself the aux shaft looks good.
So rather then buying an engine, removing yours, installing the "new" one, ect.
Why don't you start by buyin a new dizzy and leads.(coil is something you'd try if the leads didn't help) Drain the oil, cheap replacement filter, remove rocker cover, run new cheap oil down from all over above. Start the engine for a few minutes, even run a engine flush in it. Then replace oil and filter.

Id try that rather then replaceing the engine. Cos even after replacing the engine, you'd be replacing the plugs, leads, filters, coil, oil change. Ect. And the time spent removing it.

hey dude
my mechanic mate had a look at the aux shaft and the teeth are all knife edged. The car did have a brand new dizzy coil leads and spark plugs, I checked them all.

So new motor it is, do you know whether an XH motor will go straight in an EL Fairmont is it plug and play apart from manifolds?
