the el has lost spark now that ive brawled and argued with the dizzy lining the oil pump up to slot it in properly, so now can i check the coil so i can rule that out? if i turn the ignition on can i ark the coil lead out or not? i only have a cheapo chinese $2 shop multimeter if this can be used? also how can i check that the tfi is or isnt rooted as i think this is the cause?
thanks
edit: i was just reading my useless repair manual and i think it said not to ground the coil

That is very funny, but the voltages in a cars ignition system are generally lethal.
I dont mean for that to sound condescending, i worded that poorly

Why don't you just use a longer lead No1 or 2 and plug it onto the coil. Put a spark plug on the other end of the lead. Use some 5mm etc insulated cable wit 2 alligator clips on either end. Clip one end to the spark plug thread and the other to the block. If you see a nice blue spark at the plug while starting the car, your coil is GOOD.......

cheers...................

Voltage doesn't kill you. AMPS is what kiils you. hence you can get zapped by a an MSD 6AL and live, that only on average 60 000 volts. but it's stuff all amps.

Get up into the 7 series and above and you need too take some care.

yeah i dont have the money to just replace everything otherwise i would, if it aint stuffed i cant replace it, otherwise i would probably would of done the coil, tfi new gasgets on the motor before i dropped it in, but it all seems good no leaks and if the coil works i wont bother to replace it, i have my suspisions its the tfi as its got a crack in it, definatly needs replacing

i have 12 volts getting to the coil via that funny plug that looks like a injector plug when the ignition is switched onto full accesories, when i turn the car over i have no spark coming from the coil through a spark plug lead to a spark plug earthed to a rocker cover bolt, also, what is the red cable coming from the engine loom to the coil? is this like a trigger wire to tell the coil when the cars turning over? it had 0 volts at this little wire while idiot lights were turned on but i have no one to turn the car over by key while i check it for volts turning over..
looks like my coils had it

The red wire is 12 v ignition. The other wire is the trigger wire from the tfi.
