Hi, i recently grabbed an EL XR6, when idling if you turn the wheels my understanding is the car is supposed to blimp the throttle to prevent the engine stalling. My car however does not do this and can sometimes stall. I know this is controlled by the idle speed control valve but before I go out and replace this is there anything else that could cause the car to not increase the revs?

When you turn the wheels at slow or no movement, the steering has more pressure on it, and therefore has a sensor/switch fitted in the rack to detect this and lifts the revs to do so. This switch in the rack is probably stuffed, they always go.

If your worried about it then replace it, but me (along with many others) aren't even running the idle control solenoid at all anyway, so running without this switch wont harm anything, just a pain in the a** if your base idle is a little low.

The seal in them eventually starts leaking and them power steer fluid starts pissing out everywhere. Best thing for these is throw them out and put a bung in it.

Cheers guys, any idea what they are worth?

Unfortunately I do a lot of low speed full lock turning as I need to do a tight 3 point turn to be able to get my car into my garage at my unit so its proving to be a little annoying :)
