Hi All, Ive got an EL that refuses to start. It was fine and one day just wouldn`t start. It cranks fine, good battery etc.
I can hear the fuel pump whirr when ignition is switched, Smartlock works fine so BEM ruled out, Changed the coil twice, changed the module on the side of the dizzy and it still wont spark. Rotor and cap in good order as is ECU relay. All fuses have been checked inside and outside the car and all are fine. All leads are less than 20K old. All cables secured and in good condition. What is the little cable that is earthed with the coil? That is the only thing i didnt change yet. Do dizzys just die internally? Any suggestions appreciated |

Have you checked the relays under the coolant tank? One is ECU, the other is Fuel pump

Yeah dizzys die.
It could well be the TFI module on the dizzy.

Changed TFI presuming its the Motorcraft thing on the side of dizzy) Im hoping its not the dizzy as it looks like a big job to change it.

TFI is the Motorcraft thing on the outside of the dizzy.
The Hall Effect sensor is the thing inside, and that can die. The ECU will always run the pump for 2 seconds whenever the accessories are first turned on to prime the rail. It will only then turn on the pump when it sees a signal from the dizzy. So if the Hall Effect or TFI is rooted, then you wont have a fuel pump and possibly not spark. There is a semi reliable spark failsafe built into the TFI. Have you actually confirmed there is spark at the leads? |

Just checked all fuses with meter after a visual earlier and still no go. Further suggestions appreciated

You'll need another person for this...
But get someone to crank the engine over and see if you can hear the fuel pump working. If you cant hear it, it means the dizzy isnt outputting a signal. Either the hall effect is rooted or the dizzy isnt turning. Maybe need to check the coil lead too. Ive seen where they are broken or damaged from the heat, so obviously no spark. Have you taken the dizzy cap off to see if the little d**k in the centre is there or not.. It might be worn away. |

Same as above but you can also check to see if the injectors are working. If they're not working then again its either the TFI or the hall sensor.

Or that... But its hard to tell if injectors are working if the car is just cranking over... So many noises and vibrations makes it hard for the unlearned to tell.

True if tools are limited fuel pump would be easiest.
I was think along the lines of using an LED injector test light (NOID light). you can plug it in, sit it somewhere you can see it from the drivers seat while you crank. |

Fuel Pump working you can hear it prime when ignition switches on. Cap outside and inside in vgc rotor good, I will try another coil lead. Any more ideas?

Why would you keep looking for fuel pump faults when you know you've got no spark. arm 79's right your not reading things properly. Your all over the shop chasing faults everywhere, when you know it has no spark. Cure that fault first (the most likely one on a Ford 6) Then if it still does'nt go (when you know for certain it has spark) then start looking elsewhere. You've changed the coil (most likely culprit) when that does'nt work the next most likely is the dizzy, you can buy these new aftermarket for about a $100 (thats what the last one I bought from Bursons cost) complete with cap,rotor & base. That way you've changed the module & the hall effect sensor, so covered both possibilities. That will in 99.9 percent of cases get your spark back & the car going. If not, I'm happy its not me!!!.
