could even be fuel related, like a blocked fuel filter, believe it or not.

Could be your coil, overheats and is OK when it cools down, May also be your TFI Module.

loose battery terminal or earth? I had this problem on my EL... it stalled on the way to work, still cranked over though the fuel pump didn't prime up.

I had same symptoms in my EF - randomly engine quitting - then after 20 mins to couple of hours it would start and run again ok sometimes for few minutes sometimes for days. Evidently it couldn't be the TFI on the EF else thats exactly what I'd have picked it as being (had TFI poop out in my ED twice in space of ten years). Turned out to be the fuel pump (that I'd fitted NEW only a couple of months before).

Was f^&%ing dangerous as it quit on me in traffic a couple of times before I got on top of it - if was a rich prick I'd take Ripco to court...

When it happens, wait a couple of mins with ign off then lift up the carpet in the boot and listen for the pump running for few seconds when ignition is turned on - if you don't hear the pump whirr for a few seconds then that's likely your problem (you can try thumping the boot floor next to the cover and see if that makes it kick in).

Even if it does whirr for that few seconds but the car still wont start, try thumping on the bootfloor next to the cover while cranking and see if that does anything.

NEVER ever fit Fuelmiser fuel pump - always go for a Bosch or VDO.

The fuel pump is making its sound and I gave it a couple hit but nothing after I changed the TFI I let it warm up then reved it up to 4500rpm and it died and almost 18 hours later it still won't start

yep - u should always do the hall effect device at the same time as the TFI - in fact I've been told by auto electricians that a faulty Hall Effect Device can kill the replacement TFI.

Other thing to try is with engine idling (once u get it to run again) - poke at every connector and plug and see if it quits when any particular one is disturbed - especially pay attention to the big EFI loom connectors (should be near the windscreen wash bottle - between there and the manifold - round one and square one).

Bu gger of a problem - it could be any number of things - including the ECU itself!!

The other issue I ever had with my ED way back when that caused random quitting and sometimes immediate restarting ok but other times no restart for varying amounts of time was bad main EFI connector - once I isolated the problem to that (by making the engine quit when I shoved it while engine idling) then I fixed it for three years by cleaning up the plug - but eventually it started happening again and cleaning etc. didn't bring it good so i ended up cutting the connector right out and direct splicing all the wires with aviation environmantal splices (very compact and have a sleeve with resin inside that melts when heated - so once done the wire is only tiny bit fatter at the joint than before and about twice as strong).
