The el will drive fine, but when u put your foot down it just takes a while to pick up revs and goes hard above 3500rpm

does anyone know what this could be?

it also surges sometimes and just will think about it for a sec while u put your foot down. U pretty much floor it and it increases rpm ever so slowly then hits about 3500 and then its off .

-timing?
-accelerator cable?
-exhaust(its got a full exhaust incl cat and extrators 2.5in)

Have you check to make sure the BBM isn't stuck on the short runners. Would explain why it still goes good past 3500rpm but slow off the mark.

Check you have vacuum at idle on the BBM control valve.

Cheers

long runners would mean good bottom end but s**t top end, and he has the reverse of those symptoms, he is stuck on short runners. get BBM checked, could have knocked the vaccum hose off.

Well ive found the problem. It seems only one of the two throttle cables are working. On one of them, the plastic clip had broken, so it had no contact with the valve to open the T/b

Hopefully its not too expensive from ford.

The one with the plastic clip is probably your cruise control cable. The other is your throttle cable. Maybe check if the butterfly is opening all the way. But I can't see how a broken cruise control cable clip can cause these problems your describing?????????

hmm ok.. so its just the cruise cable that broke? i haven't tried if the cruise control works, so ill replace that plastic bit and see how i go.

could still be stuck on the short runners as previously mentioned, but how do i go about fixing this?

ill also see if the butterfly is opening/closing as it should. I took the intake pipe off today, and it seemed clean, but i never got someone to floor the pedal to see if its functioning properly.

thanks,
