i need a bit of help in what i actually need to change...

current car - NC II Fairlane Ghia - non smartlock

new motor - EL XR6/NL Concord tickford motor with bbm

im looking to install the lot with the bbm but im not 100 percent on what i have to change and whats optional.

im picking up a radiator on friday night

do i NEED to change the ECU and BCM/BEM?

im looking to drop the new motor in within a month so i need to source all the parts needed.

also looking for an EF/EL aircon pump, water pump, and a few other small bits.

can anyone help me out?

nice one, its good to see you decided to install the tickford hybrid .. i guarantee you dont need to replace the ecu, the bem will still work fine without any mods but i would recomend installing a simple rpm meter to switch the crossover to the long runners@3-4k (adjustable of course)

if i can find a smartlock bypass i can use the EL computer i have to run the BBM and thermos.

Ford Smartlock Bypass ;)

These are listed regularly. There are two on ebay - this is the cheaper one.

Thermo control using the ECU is much nicer. The Davies craig thermoswitch is a VERY outdated idea and shouldnt be used!. Seriously.

their Fans are good - but not the switches.

Using the ECU also means that the fans will not come on once the car is moving - and that takes load off both the electrical system and the engine.

Huggie,
Search through BenJ's posts for his thread on El to EB full conversion. He lists everything that needs doing.

Hey Huggie

Yes as PaulMac said, check out my thread. I have done this recently.

Here is the link http://www.fordmods.com./forums/benj-s-el-engine-conversion-t61171.html

It is a lot of work, but really worth the effort.

PM me if you need to.

BenJ

use the EL ecu dude with a smartlock bypass. and get the EL relay box and wiring to run the EL fans. Much nicer that way.

If you dodgy it with an rpm switch for the manifold switch over it will still run s**t the ignition timing is wrong for that intake and will most likely ping and or be slow.
