hey guys i have a 97 EL GLi with problems that has me stumped when i start it it idles high drop it into gear (auto) it idles all over the place i take off the speedo stops working or bounces between 0-140kpm and the gears wont shift up past 2nd. but if i turn it off leave it for 30min it will drive perfect i have no idea what is going on with this car please help.. thanks

To start with id try an idle re-learn.
Disconnect battery for around 15min Start & idle in neutral, all accesorys turned off for 5min Idle in D with foot on brake for 5min Idle in neutral with aircon for 5min Idle in D with aircon on for 5min Im pretty sure thats the order off the top off my head. See how that goes. |

Yep, that's for real. Forces the ECU to re-learn the idle.
