As far as i know the tickford ECU's just have different timing maps. And with the auto ones they have like half gears kinda, like when u go up a hill instead of going from 4th to 3rd it goes from 4th to like 3.5.

In comparison to standard EL Falcons, the Tickford XR ECUs have different spark and fuel maps for the engine, a higher rev limiter and speed limiter.

The Auto versions have programming to suit the 3.45 diff ratio, firmer shift changes, changes gear higher, and kicks down more readily.

Are you saying it leaves the transmission in overdrive but unlocks the torque converter?

What it does do is if you are holding the auto in 3rd, it will lock the torque convertor when cruising, which is slightly higher than 3rd, but not in overdrive, so it feels like an extra ratio.

If you read properly, we're talking about manual ECU's... They are rare as.

On ebay today, there was an EL GLi Manual ECU that sold for $305.

I am surprised by how high it went for, but it does show there is a demand for the EL Manual ECUs, and an XR one is even more desirable.

The other option is to use a J3 Chip with an XR Manual tune on it. This can plug into any old EL auto ECU and make it into an XR Manual ECU. It is around the $120 mark for one of these.

Cheers
BenJ
