My mate called me earlier on telling me about a noise that has developed in his engine. He has a recently rebuilt EL XR6 engine in his EL Futura. The noise is like a pinging sound that can be heard at 2k revs and higher when the engine is at proper operating temp......When it's cold the noise can't be heard. The noise has only began to happen this morning (The car was running perfectly before then). He has switched to premium unleaded incase it may be something to do with the fuel but no luck.
Any ideas on what it might be? Something oil related perhaps? Cheer's.

Is there a chance it could be a sensor causing the problems?

Thats a weird one... I would try adjusting the timing

Change the oil to something a bit thicker maybe, sounds like its getting to thin when it heats up

Base Timing wrong or Knock sensor disonnected.
