welcome to my world.
I have an EL xr6 as well, and unless i down shift 1 or 2 gears, more than likely the car will struggle and stall.

kinda scary doing 80k's, knocking it into neutral then having it stall while still having speed..

(manual by the way)

Check your ECU fault codes. I would say a stuffed oxygen sensor.

Ahhhh yes.

Well, on LPG the problem is/was caused by Voltage drop. The o2 sensor is referenced to the engine ground, and if there is a voltage difference between engine, battery, and body you'll get a false reading. normally doesnt matter at speed, but at idle when there isnt a lot of fuel to play with it will stall easilly.

Remember - o2 sensor range = 0-1v, and usefull range is .2 - .8v.

If you have .5v drop/gain, then your way out, and the ECU will try and correct.

I replaced all my earth leads (Engine to Battery - the big big one), and ran some new ones from the block to the body (same). Problem all gone away.

If its the same symptoms I was having a while back, (car wasn't running "right" and when slowing down to a stop, and changing down gears, revs were dropping really low) then it might be the Ignition coil.

Once this was replaced, the problem went away after a few days.. (computer reset maybe? dunno)

spray carby cleaner on the inlet manifold gasket while running and listen for revs to change when spraying. Could be vacuum leak

Hey Mates,

I have the exact same symptoms for my EF Futura. Initially it was only while running on LPG but the problem has crept into the petrol operation as well. Would a head gasket on the way out represent similar symptoms? any reply appreciated.
