the time has come that i need to put a new engine in my daily driver WILDEB. it is on gas and has a tow bar so it's perfect for a daily.

now the original 3.9L has 300,000kms on it and has been on gas for 220,000 of them. it has taken it's toll. oil pressure drops to one bar at idle when hot and it has a bottom end knock,

now what would be the best straight change over engine. i don't want to have to modify anything. so AU onwards engines are out of the question. and i will be using dizzy, log manifold eveything. will be bolting up to a EB Series 1 4 speed auto.

so would a EL engine be best seeings as the dizzy wil drop straight in etc?

thanks in advance

Yes, if you can find a motor with less than 200,000km of use. I used an EF engine & my old EA dizzy as a replacement for the 3.9L motor.

Yes, an EL engine with all of your exisiting manifolds and wiring will work perfectly. You will need to change the front accessories as well, including the harmonic balancer and water pump from the EL type to the EB type.

Cheers

I currently have an EL engine with 3.9 head and cfi. Flywheel had different bolt pattern for clutch not sure how that affects an auto.

The automatic drive plate(?) can be swapped over from the 3.9 motor, so no problems there.

One suggestion would be to put another timing chain kit in the replacement engine, along with a new sump gasket/rear seal before changeover. Depends how long you plan to keep the car for.

If you apply Murphy's Law, it'll start leaking or making noises shortly after installation. :roll:

this is true. i'm planning to keep the care for the long run. the body is immaculate so is the outside. just the engine is noisy and gear box drops out of gear if you try to manually down shift. so the auto can wait lol.

can i use the serpentine belt setup with the log manifold?

Yes but will need to source and use a XH Belt Tensioner if you want to use the log manifold with a serpentine belt setup

the only problem i'm having is this is my daily driver. it can't be off the road unless i either
1. roady and rego my gf's Ford Corsair or;
2. wait a while and wait for the SVO to be finished

i think i know the answer. f**k driving the SVO daily lol
