Hey guys/gals

I'm certain that there have probably been numerous oil threads in here over time, but I'm coming up to my 5000km service and I'm undecided in my choice. At the moment I'm tossing up between reusing the Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5-50 I have in the car now, or going back to the Shell Helix Ultra 5-40 I used previously.

Anyone else used either of these oils for an extended period of time to lemme know how they went for you? Btw...my car has 74,000kms on it.

Thanks heaps!

I personally use Penrite HPR 10 (10w-50) and I have just clocked 190000km's but I think I might go up to a HPR 15 (15w-60) next oil change as outside weather here is hot enough at startup. I have been using it for the past 12 months after a lot of other Members here gave it a good rap. I have found that it dosen't deterioate and turn black as quickly as some of the other Oil Brands.

I too use the same as 1 SLY 97EL, however with such a nice low km XR6, I'd definately go with he Mobil 1 5W-50.

yeh if there isnt any problems with the MOBIL supersyn then definitly stick with it.
the mobil 1 fully sythetic range is one of the best oils out there, it can last up to 10,000kms and still provide excellent protection against friction, unlike other synthetic oils.

go the 15w 50 if there are any different noises at start up.

I fail to see how a low xr6 or any other car determines what oil it uses?
Whats your reasoning?

Well if it was a 80,000km EA CFi I wouldn't give a s**t would I now.
If it was a 250,000km EL XR6 I probably wouldn't see much point in sticking Mobil 1 in it either.

There's my reasoning b**ch!

Thats a bit harsh. I was referring to you mentioning the height of the car in your oil recommendation.

Heh...dont worry Timmeh, we still luv ya...even if you are speshal :P

I decided to stick with the Mobil 1 anyway thanks guys. Pulled a bit off the dipstick and it's still lightish brown after 5000kms and no friction at all rubbing between fingers, so I just got 5ltrs and will add some and use the rest when I service it at about 7000kms.

I've been recommended to try a Purolator filter next time I service it, but asked around the local parts shops and noone had it. Anyone know what 'chain stores' carry it?

I would definately run the Mobil 1 in it FTR XR6. Shame that its ~$60 per 5 litres though.

I used it the last few oil changes and find it Ok. I used to use shell helix ultra and that was good to. Most good brand synethic oils do a good job in keeping internals of late model mtrs sludge free if changed on a regular basis. On my Buick I use BP corse Plus for oil pressure but would never use it on the AU mtr.

Penrite Synthetic 5. That's a 5W-60 isn't it?
Could be a little better in summer than the Mobil 1.

I'd try it but I'm afraid my car would guzzle it up when cold lol...

FTR XR6, in all honesty though, just stick with the one oil. Trying new oils every change will have small portions mixing etc...
If the Mobil 1 was good, just stick with it and you can probably gaurantee that your engine will still be in good nick a couple of hundred thousand kays from now.

Thats why you do a decent oil change and flush the engine properly to eliminate this happening will never get 100% out but get a good 99% out. Use Nulon engine and do what i do buy a spare bottle and flush 500ml into the engine and flush those last bits of s**t oil out. EXPENSIVE but worth it
