G'day all. I've got an ED 94 auto and when you push it with power mode on, it will only rev to 4500 and I have noticed that it will not kickdown from 2nd to first as easy. Is this as easy as adjusting the throttle cable or is it something else? Also I have noticed that fuel econ. is not as good as it used to be. I don't know if the reving problem is a direct result of this as I service the car regulary and have had new leads, coil, dizzy cap and replaced a split vac. hose over the last 8 months. Thanks for any help.

Another vote for that!
The fact you replaced dizzy cap and leads takes them out of the equation.

Yeah it does, 1st, 2nd same rpm (4500) but doen't hold the gears. Theres a little flat spot between 1500-2000, 2500 and after its all go to 4500. And its not the cat. 'cause the glowing red hot honey comb stuff came shooting out one night, thought it was fire works coming from under the car. LOL.

what all the insides? there is a s**t load of that honeycomb stuff in there. and most of it would been caught by the muffler?
what colour is your cat? mine went a dark pruple showing that i had been getting f**k hot. so i pulled it off and punched her out and it was much better until i replaced it

I think it probably still is the cat. Mine collapsed too and gave the same flat spot problems. Some blew out the back but alot was still stuck in there (great chunks of ceramic stuff)

Just climb under and pull the cat out for a look, it's only 4 bolts.

As Regie said some could be caught in your muffler too

yeah may ea revs off to 4300 fine then slows down and you really have to hold it then it slowly climbs past till it hits the limiter? what;s with that?

Gess it would be some thing like the others? my cat is fine, brand new like at the start off the year. could it be some sort of timin or fuel problem.

Cheers,DAN

Very good point. Thanks, I'll have a look on the weekend, but 'cause its a Lukey, I think the cat. has a three bolt join to the extractors and is welded (don't hold me to that, it maybe a join) to the pipe at end to the muffler, so it might prove to be a bit of a task to find out. But at the same time, it has been like this for about 2 years but the reving problem has only come about in last say 6-7 months. Maybe over time the pieces may have moved around?

Just had a crazy idea.
Have you checked the timing?
I had an incident whereby my timing ended up being retarded stupidly, like past TDC.
It felt like s**t, similar to what you're describing.
Although my cat was blocked at the same time, so I dunno.
Worth a check but.
edit: Forgot too, the reason mine was retarded is cause a mechanic who had replaced my dizzy cap hadn't tightened it enough, and it retarded itself over time.

Good point, that would fit best for the moment 'cause that might explain some slight hesitation from the lights sometimes.

Even if you can only get to one end the muffler should drop down away from the cat enough to poke a torch in and have a squizz.

What brand of cat was that Regie ? 6 months is pretty crap!
