hi guys
i just picked up a ED 6 cylinder automatic wagon and its making a rattling noise under the bonnet during hard excelleration. if i rev the engine it neutral it doesn't make the rattling sound. i checked the engine fan clutch for movement and it does seem to have a far bit of play in it. could this be the cause of the rattling cheers |

put handbrake on. start it and put it in drive and foot hard on the brakes,give it some gradual revs( stall it up ), see if the rattle can be heard. then have a mate listen, or get him to stall it up and u listen

could also be chain guides.

sounds like the fan clutch definitely and sounds like the water pump is also making a bit of noise.
i will be taking the fan clutch off and installing a set of thermos out of a ef xr8 the car has been of the road for 14 months so it will be getting a full service shortly cheers for the advice |
