hey all

as i've got a tickford engine here w/ 150,000kms, i'm going to drop it into my car. so, i have a series of questions to ask in regards to what i should do, tools needed, etc

-need a hoist & engine stand yes?
-easier to do g/box as well?
-can it be done at home if car is chocked up?
-is the sump all attached to the engine as a single piece? (i need to do my sump gasket or should i take the sump from the Ghia?)
-do all intake/exhaust manifold gaskets
-should i bother doing the head gasket whilst its out?

any other thoughts/suggestions please shoot - or may just pay a workshop to do it

8-) Uglybob if you are mechanically minded and have a few mates ( preferably mechanics) it would be ok to do at home!

i would remove engine and box together, change sump gasket, inlet/exhaust gaskets, and do head gasket ( as we all know what E series heads are like) Also change engine oil, coolant, plugs, air/fuel filters and do injectors.

Good luck! 8-)

yeah none are mechanics, but i'd imagine we've got enough brain-cells between us to figure it out! :) should i put aside 2/3 days for it?

Just a question, is there something wrogn with your current bottom end? If not, why not save time and just swa[ the heads over as that's the only difference between the two isn't it?

its done 275,000kms and is a little tired - i'm more interested in swapping the lot over, and having my engine to rebuild stronger for down the line.

why don't you have the tickford ghia engine done up and then just put it in once it is finished - only one engine swap over then!

thinking about this ... what would be the logistics of getting the engine out and running on an engine stand ... to check it all out first

too hard greg!!!

u need fuel lines for 1 and also a raditor then the wiring loom has to be connected.. sicne the ecu is f**k... u will need frasers...

for teh engine swap

rip out old engine and box
put in new engine and box with all associated parts ie inlet maifold, powersteering pump, alt etc
u will need to change the exhaust gasket as your car has extractors while the donar car does not
dont chaneg the head gasket!!!! it is more work and money for somethign that may or may not let go!!!
nip up the intake manifold bolts
yes do chaneg the oil/coolant/plugs/leads
also a service on the gearbox would be reall easy to do as well

i wouldnt worry about the head gasket to much if i were you its prob gonna be just as easy to do it while its in the car, i would do all the things that are harder to get to like rear main seal and sump gasket.

leaveing the intake manifold on it is prob a good idea these are a b**ch to take on and off, but apart from that it shouldnt be to hard

give the engine a good clean to that way if any leaks appear on the new motor shouldnt be to hard to fix up
