hi. as im thinking of modifying a au engine and getting someone to install it like its a ed engine, how long would it take for the mechanic to unbolt my old engine and bolt my old engine and bolt the new one straight in if i do all the hard work modifying it and laying out the distributor before hand.

also as i just had my aircon regassed recently and its working so good using the 3 belt, id like to know if i happen to get the single belt bits with the au engine wether its cheaper to keep the 3 belt and grind the timing cover and some other bits on the au engine to get it to fit and not have to regas the aircon again, or if its cheaper to keep the single belt and put the single belt compressor on and get the aircon regassed again, but i dont want to put the single belt compressor on if i get the single belt accessories and find out the aircon compressor doesnt work.

also im thinking of either putting a xr6 head on and au steel gasket or putting a au engine in but im pretty sure au engines what i want.

i presume a water leek under the exhaust manifolds a head problem but ill ask.

theres a bit of oil comming from the front of the engine. mines a ed 6 cyl 4.0L done about 214000 kms currently which would go great cleaned up with a xr6 head but im prettu sure au engines what i want if i can get it and it put in for 1500 or under as its going to cost atleast a grand for a new head for the old engine and thats only if my uncle does it with standard, so may as well spend a extra few hundred dollars on a au engine and pay to have it put in if it goes to plan.

Firstly, make your plan, What engine are you going to run. You could just get the XR head, freshen you r ED bottom end and do a broadband manifold(bbm) conversion. Then you keep your front end dress and dont have to worry about your aircon.
This would be the cheapest way. Check troymans ED build, as well as his EA build, and you will get the idea.

Also check this page, as he has pretty much everything you need

Hope that helps

the water leak under the exhaust manifold could be out of the welsh plugs , they are likly to be origanal steel ones still in it. check this first by pressurising the cooling system while moter is cold-a lot easier to find leak than when hot-- if its the welsh plugs easy fix & they only cost around $2 each for brass ones--good luck :P
