in my EB i get a strange reading too........

mine sits like N (eb's only having normal written on the dial) and a bit higher if i come up a hill at 160 with the revs up.

I'm guessing its just the dodgy gauge in the cluster.. is there anyway i can check it with a multimeter on the sensor?

$150 better than $500 - $1000 when you cook the head from running too hot. if you are handy round cars do it yourself. pull rad out and stick hose in bottom rad outlet for a reverse flush. not as good as a professional job as they have more pressure but it should do enough. also squirt water through the fins to clean all the leaves and stuff that gets stuck between rad and a/c condensor. check thermostat while coolant is drained. also make sure you have plenty of coolant in at all times. i use tectaloy gold which i have never had probs with but each to their own. either way its going to cost you a bit short term but these motors do not like to run hot so well worth it.

Check your thermostat first, it may not be opening up completely.

Is that the type of response you were looking for?

If the thermostat is ok then go with a new Radiator!

I had a similar problem with my heater, turned out to be the heater tap wasn't fully openning, worth checking.

When you buy a E series, its the first thing you have done, the radiator checked out, should have spent some money on that, instead of other stuff that is not needed, 150 is cheap for a radiator, cheaper than 1000 plus for head gasket, decking, and labour to put it in. Keep driving it like that, and you will be walking for a while, if you cant afford 150 odd.

My suggestion is the thermostat, mine used to be really low in temp but when my radiator got repaired my mechanic changed the thermostat and said that the person before you that had it put the wrong type in  .
Some people . Ohwell if they are not too expensive (i dont have a clue how much) i might be worth grabbing a new one and change it over.

Hope this helps.

On EL's & EF's the optimum Engine temp range (Hot or Cold Conditions) is acheived when the Temp needle sits on or around the "A" on the Normal lettering. If the needle starts sitting on the "R" then you got problems. Go to Radiator specialist to get it checked out otherwise if you dont do that and like others have said, start saving up a couple of grand for a new MOTOR

Check thermos - mine gets up to the R of normal every now and again and its cause the wiring to one of the thermos is a bit dodgy so it cuts in and out, hence why it doesn't cook itself but sits high as one works one doesn't. Check wiring and relay.

If mine ever clmbs higher than usual, it's not a question of time, it's a question of where can i pull over and ckeck it out.
Dosen't take much to warp a head or blow a gasket with the i6, so any temperature other than where is normally sits means DANGER!!! and pull over and find out why IMMEDIATELY.
