Hi Guys,

Sick of reading/seeing threads about I6 Cams whats better? whats cams are there? blah blah blah. Well i have been talking to a few cam places and a few people online and what the idea is i want to get a broad range of cams and dyno them all maybe even do a few 1/4 time runs with some.

I asking for donor cams and if anyone can say throw 5-10 bucks aside in the name of research to help fund this doco. If everyone can throw in 5-10 bucks i can easily run this trial and all remaining money will be donated to www.fordmods.com.

Cams im interested in dynoing.
JMM DEV3HL
ALTED Stage 1
Wade ?
Crow Stage 2
Sure Cam
EL XR
ED XR

After E Series cams i will also send you a replacement cam if need be.

Can i get a show of interet here?

Cheers

So how are you going to do this to get unbiased results also the cam requirements of a manual and an auto with a standard ECU are different from those with chips and aftermarket ECU's.
Then there are those who run Hi stall converters.
Then to get true results you have to run them in, the other factor is with or without extractors and different manifolds and different intakes and valve springs, forced induction and diffs, these will affect all your results.

Then the expense of dynoing each one and then the dyno results are different at many dyno places, different standards to dyno readings.

And then you have to get all the cams, Im tired just thinking about it.

I don't think Spider means EVERY cam on the market opto.
I guess it would be a shortlist of the most common ones, cams that will run fine with auto and standard/xr6 ECU.
I think it's a great idea.
I assume you mean run all the cams on the same engine, dyno on same dyno blah blah.
It would take while, having to run in every cam, but it's doable.
I'd be willing to chuck some cash toward it.

What the idea is i will be taking a car say week 1 ALTED Stage 1 put the cam in drive around for a week then dyno the cam. Get home change the cam to one of the others reset ecu and everything and drive around for another week dyno next cam. This will be over say 5-6 weeks depending on cams.

Be run on same engine same car with same mods only difference is the cam. Be run in a ED with JMM Race Series Extractors, CAI, BBM, EL XR6 Manual ECU. There will be no biase as only i will know what cam is in the car at time of dyno.

Already have had a donor ALTED Stage 1 Donated to me thanks to Jaysen.

Cheers

Yeah that's what I thought Spider.
That is a good f**k idea, and it'd certainly be interesting too see the results.

Terrific idea but hard to do in a commercialy sensitive way to attract sponsorship.

Also lets be real here apart from the mild cams, most serious cams will have different recomendations about ecu, head and other mods which if not followed will impact on the cam performance fairly or not.

I think that's why it would only be a small selection of cams that would NOT require a chip.
Not everyone that gets a cam follows it up with headporting and a chip.
In fact, I'd say the majority of guys buy a cam, buy extractors and a 2.5" exhaust, fiddle with a CAI and that's about the extent of there mods.
To compare the cams that cater to this market would be helpful to everyone.

Hmm, I think its a good idea aswell, Ill donate some money when I have some (next week). Alot of research has gone into each cam, but none into comparisons.

Cheers

i will speak to joe at crescent and see if he would be interested in taking part, both with the CMS stg 2 cam, and prehaps being the dyno used, again you could do the installs and not let joe know which cam is which and no bias could be shown.

i think you should include the cms stg 2 as it runs on both auto and manual with the std ecu and no stall converter needed.

This has great potential, however LOTS of work is involved. Would have to be all run the same day, with quick cam changes and ECU resets to keep consistancy.

The other thing is the car being use will have to have installed decent springs capable of 550-600thou lift and i have a feeling much of the time will be taken up with rocker gear shimming. What would be a good method is for a cam to be supplied with matching rocker gear, which takes out the shimming aspect.

As for the list it would be great to get as many cams tested as possable. However the logistics of such a test are enormus, yet not insumountable.

JMM DEV3HL
ALTED Stage 1
Wade ?
Crow Stage 2
Sure Cam
EL XR
ED XR

Add to that
1004/112
1521a both from wade
JMM Dev5

and get a baseline stock (or XR) cam run.

Thanks for the offer but i need a car that can be driven all week the same (eg to and from work for 5 days) plus also need a car that can last the 5-6 weeks of trials. :P

Thanks for your input yeah the car will be running a vernier cam gear and hp valve springs. The aim is to do a standard EL Cam to set us some sort of base then ill proceed to the other cams in a random order.

Aiming to start this in the New year when i get my rebuild bottom end finished and shes resprayed that way everything will be like new like it come out of the factory to also give no biase readings (eg head or springs or bottom end can't keep up with the cam kind of comments).

Cheers

I smell a devilish plan?

Are you looking for the ultimate cam, and when you find it, you will keep it.
