funny how you can be fined when ur in in the right (if you pass that is).

rushed.

Technically its where the engine makes its max torque. That's where you rev it up to and they take the reading from. Thing is if your car is modded its probably not going to make max torque at the same RPM as when it was stock. The cops know this so they make you rev your car slightly higher. I saw a few cops doing this at the nats a few years ago. Funny watching them telling a guy driving a brap brap to bring the revs up and he's saying that's all it will rev out to with a cheeky grin on his face (yeah right not with a 13B bridgeport turbo and 3" zorst). Eventually the revs came up and the yellow sticker was slapped on the windscreen. Have a nice day, thanks for coming.

It cant be that loud. If it's close then the cops have obviously just thought "hmm, bit loud - have him tested".

If its under then all should be good, yeah?

I really doubt you'll be able to replicate the test results. they will have specific distances, heights etc that the reading will be taken from.

easy fix dude
will take small amount of time but easy!

u have a gasket between the pipes/muffler/cat or somethign under there ( not sure what but find it )
what u do is make thin metal gaset from some 3mm galvinised sheet metal

BUT make the hole around 1.5-1.75" diam ie smaller than the diam of the pipe this will heavily restrict the gas flow and will quiten down the exhaust noise
and then after the test simply remove it :)

from memory the Db reading is taken from 1 metre behind the car and 1 mtre off to the side

ok... its measured one metre behind and out to the side.. one mate has an xf - he got tested at 3000rpm, another mate with an EL - 4250rpm, both 6 cylinders, both from the exact same bloke who tests them in horsham.... post 83 cars must be under 90db, the xf has a stock exhaust with a resonator removed and it read 89db. the EL had a redback 2 1/2" cat back system with no rear resonator but his first run got bout 97db so he put a stock tailpipe section on and got a score of 87db.. and yeah its not like a roadworthy where you only pay once.. if ya fail ya gotta go fix it then pay again

i had the same prob with mine and mines 3 inch all the way! went to the exhaust guy that did my exhaust and he cut a bit of tin the same shape as the gasket afer the cat and then drilled a couple of holes in it! worked a treat as it dropped about 5-6 db off and i was still borderline after but they let me go! good bloke at the pits i went to... but make sure u take it out asap as it can put strain on the motor the exaust guy told me!

id have to get it fixed and then re test it

if its over then you will have to get it fixed and pay a whoping fine. if your not sure how loud it is then take it to an exuast sho have them cut the hotdog out and replace it with a muffler. but have them do it in such a way the it can be unbolted so you can change it back to how it was.

or get it built/isntalled properly, high flow/performance doesn't have to mean ear splitting noise.
