Hey, so a month or two ago i was driving my EA Wagon from hobart to Launny and started to notice a huge loss in power, black smoke blowing from exhaust and then the Cat converter literally blew out leaving a gaping hole in it :? scared the s**t outta me.

It had also been eating through heaps of water previously.

So i got it towed and it starts now (sounds like a supercar :), havn't fitted new exhaust).

Just wondering what the hell could have caused this?

Could i have blown a head?

Havn't had the cash to take her in to the mech yet, any input would be great!

cheers

How old was the cat in the car? maybe it was that blocked it just stopped airflow through it? Did it destroy the whole exhaust system?

Sounds like a blockage in the exhaust system. Take a look at your oil - if it's milky, then you've got a blown head gasket!

The cat hasn't been changed at all as far as i know. Yeah thats what i thought maybe it just got blocked. I will check for milky oil haha, hope the gasket didn't blow.

Oh well its a good excuse to put a 2 1/2 " straight through on it anyway :P

was probably completely blocked and the pressure buildup blasted a hole out where there was a rust spot?
