Hey guys, just wondering what you think about these quotes from Performance Exhaust in Ringwood (Melbourne, VIC). This is the original email I sent to them:

Quote:
I was just wondering if you stock (or could order for me) a Mandrel bent RedBack 2.5" exhaust system? Could you please quote me a price to get this supplied and fitted to a 1993 EB Falcon Sedan?

I have also been advised on PaceMaker extractors for extra torque (I was told that to achieve this I would need to fit thinner but longer extractors) - So I was wondering if you also stock (or could order for me) these and how much it would be to fit and supply. The engine is a 4.0ltr I6.

Cheers,

Michael

and this is the email I recieved:

Quote:
Hi Michael.the redback 2.1/2 system costs $290.00 fitted and a set of pacemaker extractors are $420.00 plus you have to change your cat to a high flow unit for $320.00
All can be fitted in 3 hours for you

So yeah, good price? Bad price? Thoughts?

hmm, they only charged me 290 for the cat, but you can always bargain them down. If you pay in cash and ask em if they can do any better cause your getting the lot done, they'll probably knock 100 off the total.

uhhh you don't need to get a hi flow cat? so long as the piping in the existing cat is 2.5" you should be fine and there won't be any restrictions.....

Is the stock cat 2.5"? I don't think it's been replaced. The main reason I posted this was because I didn't think that I needed to replace the cat either.

how old is the cat? kms?

all they do is cut the corners off the cat off and weld on a 2.5" flange.

if you dont want the cat, then say you dont want it.

that price is pretty good for pacies.

as for people saying try cash, ive never seen this work (apart from the good guys). company still has to go though the same process.

The price for Redback and pacemakers is good as it includes fitting, BUT you DO NOT have to change to a high flow cat.
Might be an idea to look for a similar price elseware, as these guys do not seem to want to weld on your existing Cat

hmm.
performance exhaust do good work, but they don't like to negotiate.
you don't need a high flow cat, just a 2.5 flange on the old one, and i bet that price for the pacies will be for 4499's, and you want 4480s.

I've heard Ringwood Exhausts to do a good job and good prices, although I'm not sure about prices of others so I can't compare. Although thanks for getting the quote for the Redback coz I was gonna ring them for the same thng. Is the price the same for wether its with muffler, hotdog or straight-through?

there are so many guys on these forums that re-use there standard cats that have done high km's, and say they flow just as good.

FACT: a new ford factory cat that has been modified may indeed flow as good as a high flow item but i am yet too see a cat that has done 150000km plus that will flow as good as a genuine high flow item.

A mate of mine works at an exhaust shop and said a good flowing cat is essential in an exhaust system and alot of the ones they modify are that f&cked that it will cause problems, but the cust doesn't want to shell out another $300.

cheers....

Go to the wrecker & buy and old cat off a falcon and tap it on a steel bench, i can bet bits will start breaking off inside it. Cats don't last forever just like oxy sensors.

Goto you local wreckers. I picked up a set of extractors and a hi flow cat for $140, almost brand new. The Cat is 2.5 inch straight through, from a GTO. Dont pay 290 for a Cat, you should pick one up cheaper than that.

I would suggest replacing the CAT because the standard Cats decintergrate pretty easily if you have a lead foot. By bro has a XH ute and has been through 2 in 150,000K, Not Bad hey

Cheers

Although I hate to say it, I don't know if it's worth it - I love my car, but it's done around 320,000kms. To spend this amount of money on it, with Uni as well kind of seems a waste. Might check the wreckers for some stuff.
Thanks for all the replies guys.
