Hi i am currently hotting up a 250 crossflow in a 1979 model Ford XD, i have installed new cam and lifters, valve springs, manifold and has a 350 holley carb with pacemaker extractors into a 2.1/2 inch exhaust system.

i was looking at getting more power out of it...

if any of you ford lovers could help me out with extra mods that will increase horsepower that would be ace!

Mate. You've done pretty much everything I would have done to a 250.

Does it have a cast iron head or the alloy head?

If it has a cast head, change it to an alloy head, as this will increase power. A late XF ULP head would be the go if you need to change it.

The only other thing I'd do would be:

1) change the ignition to an MSD 6AL multi-spark CDI ignition.

2) fit a turbo!!! The 250 loves being turbo'd.

you have pretty much done it all except for a complete stripdown and rebuild.

for all out N/A power it would go along the lines of

blue printing and balancing of the bottom end
high comprestion
highly ported head
very big cam
tripple side draught webbers
custom made or off the shelf competition extractors
2.75 inch exhaust
MSD 6AL multi-spark

what compression are you running?

i would get it dyno tuned and the dizzy regraphed.

maybe look at a different diff centre like a 3.23 or a 3.5 or 3.7... then whack a t5 in it...

cant think of much else. maybe ditch the holley and go a weber... :)

1 other thing to take to note is that u can use the Alloy head of an XF
the head to look for is marked with "C2" on the inlet side between port 1 and port 2 !
they were the HIGH compression head that they made :)
also use the Electronic dissy too if ya dont have it allready and ditch the 2 barrel and fit a low CFM 4 barrel ( just my thoughts )

Dave :)

what they do is line bore the main tunnel and use that as a refference point to machine the rest of the engine. that way every thing is square to every thing. all the bores are perfectly straight up and down to the crank the deck is parallel to the main tunnel and the main tunnel runs through the center line of the bores
